Is It Clean? recently organized and concluded the Philippines’ first conference on hospital laundry and linen rental at One Pacific Place in Makati, gathering 45 players in the laundry & housekeeping profession.
Romeo Apolega, founder of Is It Clean?, delivered the introduction of the conference, emphasizing issues and challenges such as thinning par stock and rising rate of outsourcing not just laundry but also linen. He argues that the shift of institutions from on-premise laundry to outsourcing is an unprecedented opportunity for laundry operators.
Apolega, a multi-awarded senior chemical engineer with 51 years of industrial laundry experience, predicted that linen rental will be the future of the industry in the next 5 years. This is true not just for hospitals where linen rental penetration is already considerable — but also for the hotel industry.
Randy Dalusong, Chief Financial Officer and head of sales & marketing at GEE Linens Manufacturing Corp., discussed the nature of linens in his lecture, emphasizing criteria in selecting products. These criteria include durability and quality.
Nonie Villanueva, who brings 35 years of hospital & hotel laundry experience, discussed the pit falls and opportunities of going into linen rental. He outlined the challenges that linen rental operators face, such as losses, and highlighted the benefits that both customers and operators stand to gain with this approach.
The event was attended by a number of hospitals, hotels, and laundry operators, including the Executive Housekeepers Association of the Philippines.
The conference was sponsored by MRP Laundry Setup PH, MRP Textile Care Co., and Chemlux Inc.
